NEXT CONCERT
Adès, Matthews and Elgar at St John's, Smith Square
In over half a century of music-making, Kensington Symphony Orchestra has built an enviable reputation as one of the UK's most accomplished and adventurous non-professional orchestras. Established classics, neglected masterpieces and works of today's leading composers are all hallmarks of KSO's repertoire, all performed with a skill and panache that has garnered praise from all quarters.
Nature is to the fore in KSO's next concert on Monday 21st june. Wagner's "Forest Murmurs" portrays the magical woodland in which the hero of Siegfried realises his destiny. Malcolm Arnold's early work "Larch Trees" shows an unfamiliar side of his personality, one indebted to the example of Sibelius, and in particular his final orchestral masterpiece: "Tapiola" is a powerful and unforgettable evocation of the ancient Norse forest gods. Completing the programme is Nielsen's magnificent Fourth Symphony, which from its blazing opening to its climatic pitched battle between two timpanists embodies its composer's conviction that "Music is Life, and like it inextinguishable."
I hope you will be able to join us at St John's, Smith Square.
